On Track to College with Success Coaches: The Azusa Unified School District’s Positive Support Progr
Thursday November 14, 2024 2:00pm - 3:00pm PST
Learn how Azusa Unified School District implemented a “Success Coach” model to support the hearts and minds of 9th and 10th-grade students to increase students’ college eligibility. With a focus on English Language Arts, the district’s certificated Success Coaches work directly with students to address social-emotional and academic needs to increase engagement in learning and completion of class assignments. Success coaches collaborate with classroom teachers to support awareness of student needs and to share effective approaches. Additionally, teachers selected an English Learner “Focus Student” to monitor and share effective instructional strategies with colleagues. As a district LCAP goal, the Success Coach model positively impacted students’ learning behaviors, academic performance, engagement, attendance, organizational skills, learning ability, and performance and pride in themselves. Data also show the Success Coach model facilitated educator collaboration focused on student success practices.
